Corporate Job switch to Freelancing
From corporate job to Freelancing, An Enriching Transformation

Being in the corporate world has brought many opportunities and good influences in my life. However, having a regular 8 hour job six, six days a week with regulated weekend off and required holiday duty entails a lot of sacrifice especially, “Time” spent with the family. I have longed to land a career as a freelancer and it grew more deeper being caught up in this pandemic which has definitely brought so much havoc to the economy, resulting to a lot losing their jobs, had pay cuts or unpaid leave. Not to mention to risk of being exposed to the virus once you get out from the comfort of your home on your way to your workplace.

But how do I get started? Having no knowledge at all on how the industry works and possessing zero skills, how do I compete with those who are already established? And so, my freelancing journey begins.

I was disillusioned into thinking that when you work as a freelancer, you sit at home get a stable internet connection and a reliable laptop or desktop unit, wait for work to come and that’s it, you’re good to go. But as I dig into the process, I came to a realization that freelancing is hard work, for nothing good ever comes easy.

Let me share some tips on how to get started on your freelancing journey, making it more enriching and more doable:

I was so blessed having come across The Filipino Virtual Assistant. This institution provides holistic and in-depth training. My Coach, Ms. Grace Locsin has shared more than her expertise, in every lesson she shares inspirational stories and personal experiences that attributes greatly to my determination to keep honing my skills as a Freelancer.

2. Embrace the whole process

It is very important to know what you want and keep focus on getting what you want. It entails a lot of determination because freelancing and corporate work are two entirely different world. I, literally am not tech savvy. I have a one year old facebook account and used it mainly for communicating with my love ones and that’s it. Until FVA, I was never aware of how much more you can do with it. How you can utilize it for growth, how it can be used to showcase your capabilities, your skills, your services. The enhancement of your freelancing skills will depend a lot on how driven you are. Freelancing offers a diverse possibilities but you won’t be able to keep up unless you embrace the virtual world. Everything in it, from the basics: setting your accounts, different social media platforms, different tools and applications you can use, to creating a website and making content and a whole lot more.

3. Build a strong network

Being with the FVA, I found a family. It is very important for newbies like me to know that you stand on a strong stable ground with mentor who provide unconditional support and sincere guidance. It has changed my mindset, from becoming a Freelancer to a Hero Freelancer, as what Coach Grace has mentioned in one of her videos. I want to be able to give my best service to my future clients by ensuring that when I take on a contract or a job, I will be able to help them and provide significant contribution to the growth and success of their business or company.

I am still refining my skills and got a lot more to learn, but I will never be put down by fear or intimidated by being a newbie. Instead, I will focus on my journey, continue enhancing my skills, shaping a better version of myself with every step and ensure exemplary output on my every work.
